The Madrid-based German illustrator Silja Goetz just sent us her latest project, a stunning “Baraja Espanola”: or the classic Spanish card deck which will have its 150th anniversary in 2020. For the occasion, famous Spanish card maker Fournier will celebrate this with several special editions. One of them will be Silja’s culinary themed card deck featured in exclusivity below.
Silja used a mixture of detailed pencil drawings and bold graphic forms, combining them into handmade-looking collages. The four suites are clearly differentiated in color and pattern to guarantee a perfect playing experience, because these cards are not only collectables but want to be used, especially in a good old Spanish bar while eating a slice of tortilla de patata.
The gold coins have turned into oranges, the clubs are Spanish hams, chorizos etc., the cups are glasses of wine and the swords have turned into fish. The four kings, formerly all-male, are now Simone Ortega, Ferran Adria, Zyriab and La marquesa de Parabere, all very influential in the Spanish kitchen through the ages. The horses have become donkeys, and the knaves or “sotas” are offering their produce in a market stall, or a bar…
You can choose from the many card games to play online and get bonuses. For beginners, playing live blackjack online offers a whole different experience from simply playing standard blackjack at the local casino.
