To inaugurate their new New York branch, Mucciaccia Galleries held a private reception to celebrate the opening of Yayoi Kusama exhibition featuring highly curated selection of paintings, sculptures and works on paper such as her signature Infinity polka dots painting and iconic sculpture pieces from her series Hi, Konnichiwa (Hello)!
28 works in total, dating from 1951 to 2008 will be on display at the gallery from November 10 to January 30, 2020.
Yayoi Kusama once said “In the universe, there is the sun, the moon, the earth, and hundreds of millions of stars.” and she portrayed her life as one dot among thousands of other dots. Kusama associated the polka dots with the Sun and the Moon, as the dots had their same shape, whereby the Sun symbolize energy and the Moon tranquility.
