You might or might not have heard about all the Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies frenziness. With Bitcoin now approaching $13,000 per coin, general public, the media and big investors are starting to take it more seriously and investing in what we believe will become the currencies of the future. Since it’s a ‘new’ phenomenon, comes in with new business opportunities and that’s the case for the recently launched CryptoKitties!
A bit like a digital version of Pokemon cards but based on the Ethereum blockchain. And like most viral sensations that catch on in the tech world, it’s blowing up fast. These virtual cats are game centered around breedable, collectible, and oh-so-adorable creatures called CryptoKitties! Each cat is one-of-a-kind and 100% owned by you; it cannot be replicated, taken away, or destroyed.
Trendland has been on the look of the coolest cat around (account name TrendKitty), but because of the crazy popularity of the game since launch (only 2 weeks ago!) CryptoKitties are becoming more and more expensive. People are spending a crazy amount of real money on the game. So far about $1.3M has been transacted, with multiple kittens selling for ~50 ETH (around $23,000) and the “genesis” kitten being sold two days ago for a record ~246 ETH (around $113,000). And like any good viral sensation prices are rising and fluctuating fast. Right now it will cost you about .03 ETH, or $12 to buy the least expensive kitten in the game.
