Duddells Hong Kong Ilse Crawford

London’s Studioilse turns out another excellent study in eclecticism, this time, in Hong Kong. Duddell’s, a restaurant and gallery in the Shanghai Tang Mansion, serves Michelin-starred Cantonese food to a members-only crowd.

Hosting talks and exhibitions, the elite space brims with local art curated by Ai Wei Wei. Ethnic rugs, travertine staircases and mid-century modern chairs evoke the genius loci of George Duddell himself, a Brighton man who became a prominent auctioneer in Macau and Hong Kong in the 1840s.
