Jason Freeny's "Choice Cuts"

Jason Freeny’s “Choice Cuts”, currently on view at Los Angeles’ 101/exhibit, is a series of sculptures showing the inside organs of toys, literally embodying the human form within them. The idea of bringing the artificial objects to life occurs here ironically with the dissection and the display of the internal anatomical structures. The work reminds of some of the pieces by Takashi Murakami, especially regarding the play with the commercial and childish icons of the popular culture. These seemingly medical models appear, at the same time, to capture the aesthetic precision and delicate form of a toy’s construction.
