Artist Tom Fruin went a long way from home—from New York to Copenhagen—to build a house. Actually, it’s an outdoor sculpture that is shaped like a house, but looks more like an ultra-modern stained-glass cathedral. The 12x12x14-foot frame incorporates roughly a thousand of pieces of reclaimed plexiglass, ranging from 2×2 to 24×36 inches in size.
Standing in the Royal Danish Library Plaza, the sculpture takes its inspiration from Copenhagen’s kolonihavehus, which were originally small garden sheds intended to provide impoverished city-dwellers with some refuge from urban conditions.
Tim’s Kolonihavehus, on the other hand, proved to be a beautiful attraction, with a computer-controlled light sequence by Nuno Neto, a sound installation by Astrid Lomholt, and a collaboration with performance company CoreAct.
