Mariachi El Bronx is the Mexican-style side project of indie band, The Bronx. With an American punk sound in the realm of Sublime, the innovative Los Angeles group of five have been gaining recognition as a clever, stand out alter ego to their original undertaking. The mariachi counterpart comes fancily decorated with black charro suits and like any great mariachis, tells of star-crossed lovers and the sacrifices they would make.

Soon after The Bronx’s transition into fragmented acoustic guitar chords and sombreros, they were hooked and learning everything there was to know about mariachi ensembles and tradition. Now, the boys are on to their 2nd album and a name on the tongues of many as solely “Mariachi El Bronx”–the punks dressed in charro suits.

“I Would Die For You,” a completely revamped Prince cover with a Mexican passport, won me over as the gem of their first album. Make sure to check out their new single, “48 Roses” off Mariachi El Bronx (II) as well. Enjoy!
