Wilhelm Sasnal’s Contemporary Paintings

wilhelm sasnal_trendland_

After the acclaimed solo show last year at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, Wilhelm Sasnal has now opened his new exhibition in New York, at the Anton Kern Gallery. The Polish artist has chosen an anti-conventional medium in the art field to reach critical success, that is painting. Wilhelm Sasnal (b. 1972) takes inspiration for his paintings from daily life, images and subjects from the mass media, or from his country’s history. Sasnal’s works mix up romanticism with realism, Pop with abstraction, with a subjects range that goes from portraits of his family and friends to icons of pop culture, from pictures in the current news to some of the upsetting chapters of Polish history. He has shown his strange and atmospheric paintings and 16mm films in museums across the world.
