‘Grottoes’ project by architect Antonino Cardillo is an ongoing, documented series that explores unusual, cave-like architectural structures. The artist usually finds them in unexpected places – let it be a small portal with volcanic-ash walls in a Georgian street in London or a ‘Dust House’ in Rome’s Via Veneto.
For the Specus Corallii in Sicily, Cardillo designed the shell and coral-inspired surfaces himself, transforming a chamber-music space into a raw, yet beautiful, pink grotto.
