Weekend

Trailer Tuesdays: Week End

Weekend

This week, be sure to check out Jean Luc Godard’s 1967 dark comedy Week End. Mirelle Darc and Jean Yanne star as spouses intent on a supposedly idyllic weekend trip, however each plans on killing one another. Fortunately or not fortunately, the car ride goes awry and the two find themselves stuck in a never ending traffic jam in which the discord of their marriage is the least of their problems, as fellow travelers rise up in a metaphoric portrayal of the demise of Western civilization. Godard is the French New Wave master of surrealism, and Week End, one of his few political films, provocatively confronts the audience with bourgeois decadence gone horribly wrong.
