Still a teen, Tina (then, Anna Mae Bullock) met Ike at a show in St. Louis Missouri in 1959. They were married by 1962, and they had their first hit in ’66 with “River Deep, Mountain High,” and then, “Proud Mary” in 1977. Although, their marriage came to an end in 1976, thanks to Ike’s serial infidelity and physical abuse. The love may not have lasted, but the hits did. Tina, whose career has spanned over a half a century has been called “one of the greatest singers of all time” by Rolling Stone. We call her a survivor.
To this day, Tina has still got those standard, energetic moves and just keeps on burning. Enjoy this week’s throwback.
Tina and Ike Turner were one of the most successful –and tempestuous — couples in entertainment history.
