Thomas Demand’s ‘Junior Suite’

German artist Thomas Demand builds life sized scenes in paper and cardboard models, inspired by found images, which he then photographs himself.  Recently, he recreated Whitney Houston’s last meal based on an image he found on TMZ.  In this short film by Friend & Colleague,  he talks about how the Houston-inspired piece came about, entitled ‘Junior Suite’, for which he checked into the Beverly Hilton and had the same meal as the ill-fated singer.  The formula for each of his works is always the same, and is not complete until the models are destroyed.  Demand says, “Many of our experiences, who we are, what we are going to do tomorrow are coming from pictures and from memories.”  Check it out!
