This “Artivist” Finds New Ways to Repurpose Art

Dutch designer Nienke Hoogvliet is an “artivist”. Art is a space for her to explore new solutions while maintaining tradition and sustainability. After graduating from the Willem de Kooning academy in 2013, she opened her own textile, product and concept design studio. Nienke has a special interest for natural elements and works with a variety of material from experimental textiles such as fish leather made from salmon skin, sea algae, to conventional fabric like mohair, silk and cotton. The young designer gets her inspiration from the vulnerability that surrounds her in humanity and nature.
