Critically applauded indie-pop band, The xx returns with a well-awaited new album Coexist this week, a brilliant follow-up to their self-titled debut album.  Since then, the band has lost a member – second guitarist and keyboardist Baria Qureshi left the group end of 2009 – but hasn’t lost an ounce of inspiration and sense of melody.

“We’ve all come back off tour and been partying a bit more. We left when we were 17 and we missed out on that chunk of our lives when everyone else was partying. Club music has definitely had an influence on this record.”

“Tides” continues with the style that’s been working so well for them; that same echoing, distant guitar sound complementing Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim’s soothing voices. We are psyched to see Jamie Smith taking more responsibility and space on arrangements, adding a qualitative groovy dub-step vibe to the album.

Also, take a listen to “Angel,” the previously released first single from the album. The track is a perfectly smooth transition between the two albums.
