The Research Collection by Kirstie Van Noort

Kirstie Van Noort experiences design as a way to express process and journey behind a material.

When fascinated by a material, she starts by making detailed experiments and tests. The outcome of the research can form the basis for the concept behind a final product or result in the actual research. Van Noort graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011 and has since that time had her own studio.

One of her most recent works is the study of Cornwall and the influence of the mining industry onto the landscape, a research trip back in 2010. Visiting twelve different mines, she collected samples of residue from porcelain, copper and tin. These formed the base material for a ceramic paint that can be used to color porcelain.
