The son of two architects, Swedish artist Axel Brechensbauer, known as Axel, grew up in a neighborhood full of studious kids and a triangular foundation of computers, shapes and art. Now based in Barcelona, Spain, he creates playful and bold sculptural objects influenced by his obsession with Tetris and Lego. His geometrical reshaping of figures are a mockery of materialistic attitudes and what we consider useful. The sculptural objects made of brass, bronze, jesmonite and wood look like Dada chess pieces, a movement that reconciled slightly silly and haphazard art styles to communicate the art’s message.
