The Annual Clock (Kickstarter)

Have you ever felt like time is moving too fast? Do you have trouble being ‘in the moment’ for longer than a few seconds? New York based Scott Thrift is introducing a beautiful annual clock that tells time in seasons. An annual clock called The Present?
Yes, a single operational prototype of The Present exists. Watch the video below…

Proposed as a Kickstarter project The clock was turned on this past Autumnal Equinox.

The Story

The Present tells the story of the seasons using subtle gradients of pure color to mark the Equinoxes & Solstices throughout the years.
The Present contains a custom microprocessor that was commissioned to accurately turn hours into months. The annual hand takes an entire year to complete a single clockwise rotation.

I Love that. What can I do to help change time?

To make The Present available for anyone to own at a reasonable price, I’m going to need your help. There are a few final design, manufacturing & packaging steps that require funding to activate the first production run of The Present.

For manufacturing to make fiscal sense in the United States of America, we are hoping to break even with the presale of at least 100 pieces.

Who is the present for?

The Present is inspired by and is the perfect gift for musicians ~ writers ~ thinkers ~ lifers ~ lovers ~ expecting mothers ~ artists ~ philosophers ~ builders ~ strategists ~ challengers ~ believers ~ teachers & long term leaders

How do you display The Present in your home or studio?

The Present is fitted with two rare earth magnets inside the back plate. A steel disc and anchor based screws make up the magnetic kit for The Present to fit in any location.

How long will The Present last?

Our calculations tell us that The Present will run with the included battery for no less than 4 years. With the potential to run for over 12 years.

How do you set The Present?

The Present will be pre-set for you before delivery. There will also be access to the movement for any changes in the distant, distant future.

What is The Present made of?

The clock face is printed on metal, which is encased by a beveled glass front that is set into a metal back plate. The hand is laser cut clear acrylic. The movement is a modified version of a standard quartz clock.

How does the hand move so slow?

A custom microchip has been designed that accurately modifies the burst rate of seconds. A ‘second’ as we know it, on this clock, counts off once every 6.08 days or 142 hours…

What will you use the money for?

The money will allow me to hire a professional design team to take the work I have done with the prototype to the next level. I’m looking for the perfect balance between form, function and longevity with an eye on quality, not quantity.

I will also be hiring a package design team as well as a fulfillment agency to source US materials and align them with Brooklyn based manufacturers.

The sum represents what it will cost to produce a minimum of 100 pieces in the U.S. It will cover legal fees, prototypes, design fees, hanging kits, packaging, reward costs/shipping, KS + Amazon fees and contingency.
