CUSTOM MADE CRIME SCENE TAPE BY BRIAN LICHTENBERG

Not that we are super fans of Lady Gaga, but we have to congratulate her stylist for continuously doing such an amazing work, and especially on Gaga’s newest vide, Telephone. Nicola Formichetti, is considered to be one of the best stylist in the Industry. [Watch Telephone by Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce below]

CUSTOM MADE OUTFIT BY JEAN CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC, SUNGLASSES BY MERCURA

I am confident in saying that Formichetti is the one who is making Gaga such a superstar! Without her “eccentric” style, she would never have risen to stardom so fast…  And what a great gift as a stylist to work with someone who will wear anything you propose, with such beaming confidence, the result can only be only great!

LADY GAGA – VINTAGE HAT AND OUTFIT BY THIERRY MUGLER
CUSTOM MADE CHAIN AND JUMPSUIT BY VIKTOR & ROLF, CIGARETTE SUNGLASSES AND SHOES BY HAUS OF GAGA

I should also mention that its pretty easy to pull great designer pieces (or get custom ones made) when its for a huge artist, especially when everyone wants to be a part of the ‘Gaga Phenomenon’.

Very unfair to slight Gaga’s role in the creativity – she controls everything creative and – according to her business manager – can exert final say there as well. She chooses who she works with and what she wears. She has the good sense and fortune to work with the best. Her direct involvement has been cited by reporters (a Mirror reported spent 24 hours with her on tour) and her collaborators. Her style is not new. Before she became famous, she was dressing wildly (and fetchingly) while working with Lady Starlight.

I understand, but we never said that she hasn’t the final say. Knowing very well the industry and especially the ‘styling industry’ (been styling for 8 years), the stylist has one of the most important role on the style of any artists. Do you think that she has time to choose those ‘vintage Thierry Mugler‘ or even to create those ‘ Custom made Crime Scene Tape by Bryan Lichtenberg‘ ? Unfortunately not! She might have an eccentric style on her own, BUT she’s far to arrive to the level of Nicola’s styling work! (and we know it for a fact, few friend of us worked on set with her).

  • Chuckjones

Yes, Cyril, I understand as well. I didn’t say that a stylist isn’t very important, nor did I say that Gaga herself is a great stylist. She’s a creative performance artist. As for the product, the buck stops with Gaga. It’s her performance – be it stage, video or music – and her career. She brings creative people in to work with her and she strives to keep them onboard if they’re good. What seemed off was the comment that this stylist is the “one who is making Gaga such a superstar.” Somehow if he didn’t continue to work with her (and I hope he does, he’s terrific), I believe she’d adapt and continue to succeed, both artistically and commercially.

  • Brian

I think because Cyril does styling, he wants to give a ton of credit to the stylist, NicF (who’s brilliant!). To answer your question Cyril, yes, she does what all of us who love fashion do – she researches fashion obsessively and decides what she wants. It’s funny that you mention Mugler because she’s been wearing his clothes and into him from the beginning; no one just “brought” her a Mugler while she sat there waiting patiently to be dressed. Furthermore, things like the coke cans in her hair and the HoGaga designs are directly overseen and created under her guidance.

Lastly, like so many, you only focus on her fashion, ignoring that it is only one aspect of the over-the-top personality that made her famous. There’s also the insane interviews, her pop art and wild performances, the popular music, her jazzy acoustic piano performances that she does at (nearly) every live performance now, not to mention the fact that she writes all her music and sings it live and well. All of these factors contributed to her gaining a massively obsessive fanbase of hardcore followers very quickly, because she is seen as so unique among our contempory pop acts. (I typed this on my phone so I had trouble checking this over, sorry if it’s not coherant.)

Brian, im not gonna argue too much on this – you seems to be a fan or follower, but im not !
This post was a congratulation to Nicola’s work and I mentioned MugIer because it was one of the outfits she wore in Telephone, and i can assure your that she didnt find it on her own!
Personally I hate do not like Gaga, the cans in the hair was the stupidest thing i’ve seen since a while. To be clear, i do not like her music and I do not feel her vibe… We know those information from facts, a close friend of us work with Nicola. And i will ALWAYS give tons of credits to the stylists, because being in the industry (France & US) for more than 10 years, i know very well what happen in backstage…

I love Jean-Charles de Castelbajacs faboulous work in this video directed by Jonas Åkerlund. It seems like JCDC starts an online store, you should check it out at http://www.jcdcstore.com if you want to see more of his work.

  • Crystal

You seem to be really bitter against Gaga, Cyril.

Jealous? Maybe you are, since you seem to not like being overshadowed.

    Rant more.
