Faggottron : Alice Here is a chap called Faggottron who plays with clips from children’s films and makes them into jolly head swimming tunes. This is a good example using parts of Disney’s take on Alice In Wonderland, it’s quite hazy yet very bright. There isn’t too much information about the mysterious Faggottron but there [...]
Fools Gold : Nadine (Memory Tapes Version) Mystery Group‘s memory cassette and weird tapes combine forces to form as one super mystery group – Memory Tapes. Really, they’re all just a one man band, Dayve Hawk, from the south jersey/philly area. The shrouded and confusing identity concept would be tiresome if his output wasn’t so [...]
Yacht (featuring Glasser) : Learn (Remix) Portland based group, Yacht teams up with Cameron Mesirow of Glasser to record this remix of “Learn” using Glasser’s vocals. I love the sound! Listen to “Learn (remix)” Here Buy Here
Remady : Need 2 say Remady is a Swiss Dj and producer who is quickly gaining popularity internationally. He is one part of the duo Player & Remady but has recently been pushing on solo. He started out in drum and bass and progressed to other genres including electro-house which this song can be classified [...]
San Diego zoo has a couple motionless crocodiles you can look at through a glass window, but San Diego the city created the far from motionless band of the same name. Rumor has it that the Crocodiles’ lead singer has some pretty fancy footwork on the stage and he may look like Bob Dylan but don’t go calling him Bob or Dylan. The duo made use of the drum machine in such a way in Soft Skull (In My Room) it is definitely a hit at first listen. The band also has a blog somewhat appropriately [and hilariously] entitled KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL. Appropriate in that their album released earlier this year is called Summer of Hate and the second song on it is called I Wanna Kill. Despite all these negative titles, their music happens to uplift the listener; it is not at all harsh on the ears nor does it make one want to put razor to wrist. They recently toured with UK band The Horrors but catch them live touring with UK bands Pens and Graffiti Island on their West Coast Summer Tour – Coming to a Spaceland near you this coming Thursday August 27th, Los Angeles! ..and you can look at these Crocodiles from the front row, kill a glass window.
I recently discovered JJ’s “Ecstacy” and realized I may have a soft spot for girly, dreamy pop songs based on cheesy rap. This one’s fodder is lil’ wayne’s despicable “lollipop.” there are less liberties taken than “true affection,” even borrowing some lyrics…
Francis and the lights are a band from New York headed by front man and Wesleyan graduate Francis. Ironically “the lights” doesn’t refer to the band behind him but in fact the lights on the stage. They have one foot in Prince’s 80′s synth heaven and another foot in the future.
Who is Radical Face? The answer: Ben Cooper, a 24 year old dude from Florida who, coincidentally, also makes up 1/2 of Electric President and Iron Orchestra, AND 1/3 of Mother’s Basement. This is one busy, music making man. Ghost is the first album officially released by Radical Face. It is a concept album based on the idea that houses retain the stories of the things that happen inside them. The sound is a unique, breezy combination of upbeat melancholia. Is good.
Warpaint is a band of some local LA girls. They have gotten quite a bit of attention for being “Shannyn Sossoman’s band”. But while Shannyn did play drums on a song or two, she is not a permanent member in the group. Independently from their famous friend, Warpaint has a uniquely ethereal sound all their own, which is quite captivating to listen to.
Miles Fisher : This Must Be the Place to Be (Cover) Miles Fisher is an all around catch ladies! The guy is no American Psycho but he sure can play an almost indistinguishable Patrick Bateman. I got such a kick out of this music video, for his original take on The Talking Heads classic, he [...]
Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions: Blanchard BIG NEWS, BIG NEWS! Hope Sandoval, aka queen Mazzy Star, will be releasing a new album entitled “Through the Devil Softly” in September 2009. After Mazzy Star ended their iconic reign of the 90′s, fans were relieved to receive Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions’ solo album ‘Bavarian [...]
The Big Pink : Dominos I’m not normally a fan of big, dramatic synths and wailing British voices with my rock music, but this is something special. The Big Pink’s single from their debut album has all the ingredients of an anthem: grand, slick production; a catchy chorus; head-bop and sing-along-ability. The bitter, anti-love message [...]
