It was an exploration of sightlessness that set the tone for Phoebe English‘s F/W 2013-14 collection.
After New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week is the second round with not much time between the two.
In 2008 Christopher Raeburn launched his coveted, street smart brand; a capsule collection of outerwear made from recycled British Army parachute nylon. What has ensued since his a steady and calculated progression of a brand that now includes separates and dresses, all utilitarian, smart and ultra wearable. Although this collection’s pieces are still made with [...]
Looks like Acne designer Jonny Johansson, has gone a bit soft this season, switching up the usual tough as nails downtown girl aesthetic normally associated with Acne for a girl a little bit more reserved even perhaps sensitive. Johansson used Emmylou Harris’ cover of Neil Young’s “Wrecking Ball” as inspiration, taking a trip to the [...]
London’s much anticipated show Preen, (Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi) was minimal in hair and make up, architectural in silhouette and big on prints and color combinations. Animal/reptile prints paired with various sized stripes in black, whites and blues( with an intermittent punch of color thrown in) on boxy tops and very cool skirts which sat [...]
Another relatively new brand, Erdem, has shown us that talent comes in many forms. Erdem Moralioglu loves to put colors, textures and shapes together that are not supposed to gel, this rebelliousness a testament of his genius when looking at his finished product, mismatched, unconventional yet ladylike and very chic. Moralioglu’s technical prowess is one of [...]
Mulberry’s S/S 2013 show, according to Creative Director Emma Hill, was a “blend of Mulberry’s English country heritage with a sorbet summer palette.” With no shortage of celebrities in its front row (Alexa, Kate, et al), the cool British sensibility of the 1970s was present: menswear inspired suits, wide leg leather pants, and waistcoat jackets [...]
Deemed one of fashions must see young designers, Simone Rocha’s F/W 2012 keeps up with the buzz. Rocha uses a plethora of textiles ranging from detachable knit collars to wild mohair. Her use of lace, light colors and short dresses work seamlessly with her signature perspex sole shoe. This clunky white flat helps bring some [...]
Roksanda Ilinic’s F/W 2012 collection elegantly juxtaposes feminine and masculine shapes, textures and colors. The structural blazers and trousers adorned with fur keep one moving back and forth from the notion of bold masculinity to elegant femininity. The palette ranges from eggplant purple to copper to electric blue perfectly encompassing the feeling of fall.
Pringle of Scotland presented its clean and streamlined F/W 2012 collection with a mix of fabrications. Boucle wool suiting, cashmere’s in contrasting colors and textures, and patterned jacquards were shown in a palette of soft pastels and deeper, retro reds, oranges and browns.
Marios Schwab’s F/W 2012 collection was all about layering and lace. Whether it be a delicate lace capped sleeve on a stark white base or a sleeve-to-ankle dress in sheer aubergine layered over carefully placed shimmering slip, the look is light and felt very grown-up.
This Fall/Winter 2012 Erdem’s collection saw vibrant neon’s mixed with classic tailoring and fabrication. The result, edgy but extremely wearable classics that could be seen on anyone from the First Lady to Victoria Beckham.
