Karen Ryan : “Custom Made” ChairsBritish designer Karen Ryan was invited by Balloon Contemporary in Chicago and commissioned to create a collection of “Custom Made” chairs from discarded chairs and other scraps. Inspired by American culture and childhood narratives and the Adventures of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin, she came up with a series of chairs that mixed cultural paraphernalia.

100 Chairs in 100 DaysAfter spending 2 years collecting discarded chairs from friends and the streets of London, designer Martino Gamper spent 100 days creating 100 new chair designs. “My intention is to investigate the potential for creating useful new designs by blending together stylistic or structural elements of existing chair types.”
