Each season, Sydney-based milliner Suzy O’Rourke gets inspiration from a particular theme—Atlantis, Casablanca, Gardens, and for this current Fall/Winter 2012, it’s Gilt.
This recent collection takes its cue from a few past decades, be it 1920s boaters to ‘70s wide brims. Harking back to the grandeur and opulence of the Baroque and Deco era in particular, each piece “features lavish gold pieces hand sculpted in intricate lace, luxurious velour felts, dramatic twisted ivy branches and hand tooled silk petals,” according to the brand.
Suzy professed to loving the sculptural nature and drama of the craft; and as with most of her couture pieces, each one has been individually handcrafted using high-quality materials applied directly to the textile underneath. The result? A brilliantly textured, gold patina, with a lustrous, lightweight feel.
