Taking in the work of UK artist and designer/consultant Sophie Smallhorn is akin with tapping into a whole new world. The superb talent, who works between drawing, painting, sculpture, installation design, and more, has the knack for visually cuing the deepest visceral levels of her works’ viewers, stimulating them through color and forms, and variations therein. With a particular fondness for yellow, she seamlessly bridges the gap between the realms of art, commerce, and design, and never ceases to brilliantly interpret the context of her works’ environment, whether it’s an actual place or just the viewers’ mind. Check out any of her rad colorwheels, including a painted color wheel adorning a private home in Basel, Switzerland; her cool contributions to the Tokyo Comme Des Garcons flagship; and a selection of her painting and sculptures. I personally could never grow tired of such elegant minimalistic art.
