What might appear to be an arrangement of abruptly smashed clay pots, reveals itself on closer inspection, as a surprisingly slow-moving, gentle decay of material in Karin Lehmann’s standout installation.
Sediment Sampling documents the initial placement of 200 unfired clay pots and the unfolding ‘happening’ of their transformation into the final artwork. Due to their soft-unfired-state, the pots slowly slide, split and burst when filled with water by Lehmann. We love this unexpected slow transformation of the conventionally solid yet fragile object, into mixed matter puddles of separated clay and water.
