Ruth Root: Eccentric Shapes

This bold series of paintings with eccentric shapes by Ruth Root juxtaposes patterns and different material against one another. Ruth’s work is often characterized by these structures, where fabric is folded, unfolded creating origami-like pieces. Though primarily concerned with the process of painting in itself, the artist is also inspired by the phenomenon of urban experience. Her bold industrial colors and aesthetically ordered geometries invoke cityscapes, product design, and 1960s technographics. The constantly changing relationship between difference and similarity is one of the focal points of these new works.
