Here are some images and illustrations of the costumes the Mulleavy sisters designed for Don Giovanni at Disney Hall. Although the only 2 shows that were scheduled are now over, this is the first in a trilogy of presentations over three seasons dedicated to the music of Mozart and to his librettist Lorenzo da Ponte.
Rodarte founders Laura and Kate Mulleavy partnered with legendary architect Frank Gehry for the production, which concluded its run at the Walt Disney Concert Hall last week. Gehry’s elaborately surreal sets represent the disturbed interiors of the philandering Don Giovanni’s mind, as well as present the perfect backdrop of dismantled elegance that has come to define Rodarte’s best design work.
Swarovski supplied 130,000 sequin’s for the costumes and choreographer Benjamin Millepied debuted new routines. Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by L.A.’s resident superstar, Gustavo Dudamel . Hair and make up, the sisters recruited their go-to beauty crew — hairstylist Odile Gilbert and James Kaliardos of NARS Cosmetics — for the runway-ready looks.
