Proenza Schouler S/S 2013

The first thing show-goers knew about Proenza Schouler’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection was that it was in probably the farthest destination in an already hectic NYFW schedule: a huge crumbling structure in Manhattan’s Fashion District. The second was that the trip was all worth it.

The industrial concrete proved to be a perfect backdrop for the label’s latest pieces, with heavy graphic designs and complex outfits that are best viewed in the flesh. Designers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez took inspiration from collage, mashing and patching up seemingly random elements—exotic reptile textures, tweeds, highlighter hues, perforated material, sheer inserts, Oriental and digital prints.

On paper, this may come off as madcap eclectic and borderline gaudy, but in the hands of visionaries like Jack and Lazaro, it just comes off as purely, mind-blowingly fashion forward.
