Beautiful brushstrokes and blocks of color dressed the walls at the M+B Gallery in Los Angeles during Phil Chang’s first solo show last month, “Pictures, Chromogenic and Pigment” .
The series explores the artist’s interest in aspects of process, materiality and duration through photographic monochromes and works on paper. The work is an answer to the hypothesis; “What type of photographic-based work can function solely in the context of contemporary art?”.
