Ostwald Helgason SS

Ostwald Helgason S/S 2013

16 fun, fantastic looks from Ostwald Helgason for SS 13. Designers Susanne Ostwald (who created the prints) and Ingvar Helgason are fresh on the NY fashion scene, but they are steadily making a big mark. The muse for this collection is a ballsy one, Frances Brody, a wealthy art connoisseur who  commissioned French artist, the late and great Henri Matisse to make a mosaic mural for her California home’s  courtyard and subsequently told him to redo it. As well as a fantastic art archive,  Brody also had an amazing clothing collection, and as luck would have it, the night this duo presented at Milk Studio’s was exactly 60 years after the mosaic was commissioned. Well, this precisely the woman this duo is designing for, strong, artistic, knows what she wants and is not afraid to ask for it. The witty combinations of silhouettes, fabrics,  prints and colors all work, and they manage to come across in a casual yet extremely chic,  cool girl way. Not just any one can pull this off, these two really have something special here. The clothes these two make are so wearable, and at the same time, so visual, we have all seen Susie Bubble, editors and other fashion heavyweights constantly photographed in the last collection. I expect Ostwald Helgason will reinvent themselves brilliantly season after season, and frankly am looking very much forward to it.
