Masha Reva: Merging 2012

Ukranian designer Masha Reva is an artist, using fashion as her present medium. This recent collection Merging, is an homage to overkill, pattern on pattern, nature vs nurture. These  images resonate a modern Renaissance, as we are constantly bombarded with images, stuff, ideas, we try to compartmentalize and organize. Here, Reva’s very successful attempt at materializing, through imagery, her thoughts and emotions is a testament that it is with our creativity that we can have all this stimuli living together in harmony and balance.

“Becoming a part of virtual reality, a computer data, we merge within the boundless informational field that is internet. The situation within the visual stream we deal with every day — from one point it is related to the layering of information within our mind, from the other, it has a certain connection with print”

Obvious in her methodology is that although we are immersed in this technological stimuli, constant streaming of visual, emotional and physical information, nature is of the most importance if we are to succeed in this matrix. Our connection to it, and our daily devotion and recognition of it is imperative to our sanity and to the earths health, we need to balance the energy if we intend to integrate it with right intention.

After graduating at University of Technology in Kiev she moved back to her native Odessa on the sea when she won two competitions with her graduate collection and had the chance to go to NY for an internship @Thakoon and was shot for Harper’s Bazaar Ukraine by young photographer Cate Underwood. Reva has also interned for Walter Van Beirendonck in Antwerp.

She won another competition where the prize was two weeks in Central St.Martins , where she presented a graduate collection which in turn got Atlier 1 concept store in Kiev to ask her to join with 8 other Ukranian designers in designing their own capsule collection. Reva has also gone into the realm of shoes, which I think are pretty badass, and they are all handmade by local artisans, using cotton as the central material. This designer is on her way and will be a pleasure to watch mature and grow. I’m excited…….
