1800s Debutante meets Nordic hippie might sum up the fashion splash of this S/S 13 collection, Metaphoric, by Mark & Julia. The slow build to wide recognition is coming full circle as the Austrian duo sweep originality in what captures nuances of a Comme des Garçons structure and the unruliness of Free People. What they call their gender-free approach to design gives fashion addicts plenty of pieces to probe. Inspired by German icon Uschi Obermaier, Mark and Julia marked their vision and fashion voice with a 2011 debut collection.
This season, a free spirit full of elongated hemlines, wide panels, native patterns, and all things length rolls out tall in a berry palette with muted undertones. Gathered, cinched, or empire, no waist goes missing while necklines get gluttonous in high contrast cuts and symmetrical patterns. Young, curious, and synonymous with surprise, Mark Baigent and Julia Rupertsberger explode with high hopes as they deliver their latest work under their label MO, “To live from our fashion and spread love, relationship and friendship all over the world.”
