Mark Fast A/W 2010 Runway

Mark Fast’s show was a highly anticipated event for aw10! The crowd outside the topshop show space to see Fast and Mary Katrantzou’s joint show was unbelievable, and the capacity inside was at an all time high! Having caused a stir at spring/summer 10 collection by using plus-size models on the catwalk the eyes were on this central saint martin’s graduate as to whether it was all just a pretense.

Much to the delight/dismay of the front row he used a combination of sizes on the runway! A bold, but a controversial move. It seemed as tho the curvier girls were squeezed into the outfits fit for the average model size. However that is the Mark Fast woman, ‘someone who is not afraid to take risks’. When asked what his inspirations were for the season Fast stated “I am mesmerized by the bronze sculptures of Dimitri Chiparus. The movement that he creates in those pieces is incredible. The colours of coral and sea creatures. I am also interested in warmth for the winter.”

The silhouette was kept tight, yet extended off of the body complimenting the female form. The knits were detailed with knots and drapery, really playing up to a curvy figure. Some dresses had been reworked with swarovski crystals, beads and jewels – giving a chain mail effect on the dresses increasing the impact of movement.

Colour blocked in lipstick reds, mustards, pale golds and mink/greys Fast really gave a warm collection for Autumn/Winter. A wearable set of knits that his New Gen sponsors should be proud of!
