Marc Jacobs S/S 2013

Two words keep popping up when people talk about Marc Jacobs’s latest Spring/Summer 2013 collection: change and stripes. Coming straight from the designer’s last collection (a 180 degree spin of thick furs and lavish layers), this latest show was a linear line-up of comparatively lighter pieces. Straight lines came in an array, from thin to thick, vertical to horizontal, and in an assortment of darker colors. Even the accessories were striped.

Keeping the focus on these simpler silhouettes—a t-shirt and hot pants, a shift dress with scalloped hem, basic pajama sets—Marc Jacobs claims that “there’s nothing sexier than a girl covered up”. Seconded by fashion journalist and critic Cathy Horyn, who agrees that “for the first time in a while, a designer has successfully pushed the sex button in a compelling way”.
