Katharina Fritsch’s Large-Scale Sculptures

katharina fritsch

The oddly intriguing large-scale works of German artist Katharina Fritsch portray ordinary forms in solid matte colors, making three-dimensional works seem like two-dimensional icons and silhouettes. Fritsch’s sculptures are bold, graphic, and realistic, as if real objects have been dipped in paint. Her most popular works include a circle of massive black rats facing outward and concentric circles of black poodles surrounding a white baby. Her works are highly surreal and have been featured in museums such as the Sculpture Garden at the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Tate in London.
