The woman who inspired Jean-Luc Godard during the French New Wave is this week’s style icon. Anna Karina was born in Denmark but spent most of her life in France after hitchhiking to Paris at the tender age of 17. Unable to speak French at the time, she was spotted at a cafe and become a fashion model, working with designers such as Pierre Cardin and Coco Chanel. It was in a Palmolive ad that Godard spotted her and scooped her up; Karina went on to star in films like The Little Soldier, My Life To Live, and Alphaville.
