Hôtel Particulier is no ordinary hotel. Hotel Particular is a multi-faceted and interdisciplinary establishment located in a former loading dock in Soho Hudson Square. It is a true celebration of the arts and facilitates a sense of community amongst like-minded people.
From a French context, Hôtel Particulier, refers to a townhouse or any other building seeing frequent visitors. Subsequently, rather than being a place solely for accommodation, it is a hub which celebrates the unrestricted use of all artistic disciplines in the shaping of a particular artistic concept.
In an interview with Musee magazine Frederique Thiollet, curator and owner of the Tribeca gallery space Hotel Particulier shares her aim which is “create an evolving platform for great minds to come and collaborate on different projects” and which also allows “established artists to experiment outside their main body of work or outside their discipline.”
It is gallery space and independent shop, which is constantly transforming and invigorated through various exhibitions and the exchange of contemporary art editions, artists multiples and fashion editions.
Hôtel Particulier places importance on the process of creation, not just the finished product. An artists ‘in residence’ program, facilitates creative collaborations and a cross-pollination of ideas, which also contributes to the stimulating culture of Hôtel Particulier.
There is also a salon-communal workspace (open by membership during the day) and hosted events/dinners conducted by reservation. Thiollet asserts that most projects are borne from a conversation that she has with an artist or designer. Therefore, she endeavors to create an inviting space, which nurtures the importance of conversation, debate and discussion amongst inspired creatively inclined individuals.
