Ilona Habben is a freelance photographer living in Hamburg. Her latest ‘Glassware Series’, styled by Dietland Wolf , sits at the intersection of photography, design and art. Habben successfully transforms glassware beyond the functional realm. The art of balance is celebrated through an assortment of translucent glass vessels some of which are filled with colored liquids. It is an exploration of transparency, depth and impeccable composition. Considered lighting and an unexpected combination of colours produces a crystalline clarity, one which evokes a sense of pure conceptual magic. The series is a marriage of contradictions – delicate yet bold, intricate yet humble, precise yet intuitive. However, presence of small imperfections keep the images grounded in reality. It is no wonder that Habben’s work can elicit such a powerful response.
