Future Retrieval : Sculpting A Modern History

Future Retrieval, a studio collaboration of Guy Michael Davis and Katie Parker, strives to place historic objects in today’s context. The studio’s solo exhibition, Still[ed] Life, was featured in the Sinton Gallery, Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati, Ohio. To incorporate a modern day reading of historic pieces, the series presents porcelain sculptures of busts and still-life fruit, which are decorated with bright colors and patterns. The subjects are inspired by 17th-century Dutch still-life paintings and yet, because of the imposed design, are in obvious conversation with the present. Still[ed] Life uses 3D scanning and digital manufacturing of found objects to construct its time-warping porcelain sculptures.
