Maya Lin — “Here and There” New York, NY

Maya Lin is always expanding her relationship with natural and geographic forms and in this exhibition of brand new work she will touch upon important issues such as climate change, deforestation, rising currents and many more. Her subtle use of color and shape is always delicate and tasteful and I leave feeling refreshed. As the designer of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, her architectural skills are usually also reflected in the majority of her work. Fantastic.

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 25 6-8pm

Blinky Palermo

Blinky Palermo “Works on Paper 1976-1977” — New York, New York

If there is anything that makes me remember why I love contemporary art, it is those moments when prolific artitsts with epic and long careers return to a show that is simply their drawings and first works on paper. Bringing himself back to his orgins, the work that Blinky Palermo created over the course of one year in the 70’s will be on display for two months at David Zwirner and I am confident it will be quite the treat. As the picture shows and the exhibition will reflect, sometimes a simple drawing of a minimal image can create a very memorable artistic moment.

Opening reception: Thursday, April 25, 6 – 8 PM

StevenClaydon

Steven Claydon — “Total Social Objects” — Los Angeles, CA

David Kordansky Gallery definitely has its own unique style in that many exhibitions are a display of objects carefully placed together around a common theme. This very conceptual and imagistic turn of artistic phrase is extremely engaging and creates a puzzle of sorts. How do these objects relate? What is the common thread? And, in this process we engage deeply with the art, the artist, and the artistic process. This is one of my favorite galleries in the country and they never dissapoint. To our Los Angeles readers: Enjoy!

Luigi

Luigi Ghirri — “Pensari Per Imagini” — Rome, Italy

The first ever Art Weekly post touched on the interesting fact that Rome only recently opened two contemporary art museums. The first, MACRO, we spoke of a bit ago now the second MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts is now also coming into its own! Luigi Ghirri has a very simple style but always consistenly brings a fresh perspective to the table. Thankfully this show opens this evening and lasts through October so there will plenty of time to enjoy. Look out for a feature on his work our site very soon!

Nussbaumer

Ingo Nussbaumer — “Ingo Nussbaumer” — Vienna, Austria

Ingo Nussbaumer has a talent for creatively bending the concept of geometry to fit his own artistic vision. His use of angles is remarkable and, as an ex-student of Advanced Geometry myself, even when looking at the picture above I cannot even count the number of different angles in the image. Can you? Amazing!
