[EXCLU. PREMIERE] White Prism: Dance On

A few weeks ago, on New York City’s coldest winter night, I stopped by Williamsburg’s Glasslands Gallery to check out new band White Prism.

Chatting with singer/songwriter Johanna Cranitch (who performs with a 3-person band live) after the set, I was surprised to learn that the dreamy synth pop crafted by Australia-born, Brooklyn-based Cranitch came about following a somewhat accidental artistic reboot in the country of Iceland.  Interestingly, Johanna, who criss-crossed the globe with The Cranberries in 2012 as a backup singer, had an aha! moment in the country over last summer.  Realizing she wanted to scrap the demo into which she had poured the last year of her life, a valiant switch from melodic to beats-based songwriting occurred, and a new, chic electro sound was born.  Since then, I have really been enjoying the extremely polished self-titled White Prism EP, out April 23, and recorded in Brooklyn’s The Bunker studio (with one track recorded in Paris for good measure). Reminding me of a contemporary Fleetwood Mac, I am already thirsting for more.
