Estelle Lagarde: Vanishing Places and Faces

French photographer Estelle Lagarde is known for choosing to photograph strangely interesting subjects and neglected places.

From hospitals to abandoned houses about to be demolished, the artist takes interest in the fact that such places are charged with the presence of their former occupants. In the series L’auberge everything is ornate, old-fashioned, and a bit surreal making viewers wonder why are the subjects in her photos the subjects and what are they doing there? Lagarde’s allegories reveal the way people feel in certain situations and in this case, supported by a great mastery in directing, she materializes, with a cold humor, close to anger, a sense of disarray.
