Eleanor Bolton’s Accessories

During her MA at the Royal College of Art, designer Eleanor Bolton developed her own craft technique; coiling and stitching cotton rope. Through this technique she explores the idea of skilled action as a narrative quality, “that every movement, like every line in a story, grows rhythmically out of the one before and lays the groundwork for the next.” The movement, knotting and twisting of the coils reveals the striking stitching in contrasting colors, while their form as large-scale jewelery pieces, celebrates the softness and tactility of the material.

“My practice has always focused on an innovative use of materials. I am interested in how a material can be manipulated using simple techniques to create something unexpected and unusual, ” said Bolton.
