El Michels Affair : C.R.E.A.M.

It’s almost Friday so I thought I’d bring a little R&B groovin’ to our weekend.  I happened upon this “cinematic soul” act by accident last week and cannot stop listening.  El Michels Affair is the creation of two former band mates  Leon Michels and Nick Movshon.  They along with eight other former members of the deep funk revival band,  The Mighty Imperials, came together to form an impressive dectet utilizing of more than twelve different instruments.

Their label, Truth & Soul Records, said it best, “In trying to describe the sound of El Michels Affair, it will only yield feeble attempts at putting a label on such a unique sound.”  In fact, they so impressed that they backed up Raekwon and other members of the Wu Tang Clan on a national tour in 2005.  Out of that came a handful of singles before culminating in the epic that is their latest full-length release, Enter the 37th Chamber – “full instrumental reinterpretations of classic tracks by the Wu-Tang Clan.”  Get your refresher course on Wu Tang’s original here.  Click below to check out El Michel Affair’s reinterpretation of “C.R.E.AM.”
