Edible Insects for the Masses

Imagine a world where insect consumption demand triumphs meat. Edible insects have become ideal meat substitutes considering their protein-rich and high in fat content benefits at low environmental costs. While standard in many tropical countries, even a delicacy in Uganda, more than one-forth of the world’s population is already eating insects. To appease the bug skeptics and fearful, insects are now being processed into powders and pastes as “bug flours” (part ground insect and part flour) to conceal their form. Although bugs are primarily used for animal feed, commercial farming for human consumption is breaking ground as of late.
