LA-based artist Desire Obtain Cherish emergence as a street artist in the 2000s, DOC has blended the concerns and methods of street, pop, conceptual and appropriation art with popular culture to create his own unique satirical message. His work, though often controversial, is always engaging, and explores contemporary obsessions with sex, desire, drugs, gender, celebrity, media, commerce and fame. My favorite is the ‘Designers Drugs’ series made on UV Cast Resin (42 x 27), I wish he did more.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Trite idea. Poor execution. Why did he use the Louis Vuitton logo repetition motif on all 4 brands? Super lame. As if Hermés would ever use such a trashy pattern. If you’re going to do this kind of overly didactic critique of consumer culture you have to nail every detail, otherwise you’re just demonstrating the extent to which you do not understand your subject matter. This is a really galactic fail.

I agree – it’s rubbish. Controversial? In what way exactly?

I agree also. The idea is poorly executed. This could have been expanded even further. Like maybe a model in red lips with just her nose chin and mouth showing with the pill draped nicely on her tongue? Or even take me somewhere! where would I take these pills at? what kind of people would i be around? Just a thought

I agree. The idea could have been expanded further. Other then the manner in which pills are displayed in, theirs no real concept here. Maybe a setting is needed. Where would I take these pills at? The pills are not strong on their own.
