Dead Man’s Bones: My Body’s A Zombie For You

Charlie Chaplin, Dracula, and zombies, oh my! If Halloween or graveyards had contracted entertainment, Dead Man’s Bones would be the go-to band. Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields teamed up to form a Gothic, gospel production with major help from The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children’s Choir. The two requested the choir of children to do what any normal kid lives to do, play dress-up. On stage, it seems as though Gosling has temporarily left acting to be the surrogate father of an underworld orphanage, and what an adorably spooky spectacle it is. No longer will anyone wonder what it would look like if the Partridge Family turned Addams Family.

Their self-titled album debuted last October, in perfect time for the day of trick-or-treating and featured “My Body’s A Zombie For You.” The song begins with Shields providing a simple tambourine, foot-stompin’ beat, as Gosling provides a doo-wop-esque introduction to the little ones. In a way, the track seems like a contradiction, with its droning melodies alongside gleeful shouts, simultaneously riding on an almost upbeat horror/western film tune. Oh, but let us not forgot the ghost-like howls throughout. Since all songs–even one as great as this–must come to an end, it finishes up with repeated chanting of “Z-O-M-B-I-E, zombie!” in an eerily perky fashion reminiscent of an elementary cheerleading squad. May this track pleasantly haunt you over and over again!
