Daizy Shely’s Dark Kingdom

For her Istituto Marangoni collection seen here, Daizy Shely has chosen to explore volumes and silhouettes in black and white.  “The Dark Kingdom” was inspired by Pierrot, the sad French clown, 17th century Del Arte comedy, as well as the 16th century fashion from the time of Queen Elizabeth I.  “Queen Elizabeth had dresses of all colors, but white and black were her favorite colors as they symbolized virginity and purity.  I turned it into something completely different, I made the gorgera with hard fabrics as leather or taffeta and gave it a modern look.”  Gorgera refers to silhouette of the neck and wrist cuffs from popular dress styles in the 16th century.
