Loving the dark, intense universe of Norwegian artist Hedi Xandt; his impressive sculptures are an amazing mix of styles and materials. “I believe in diversity. Coming from a creative family composed of painters, illustrators, draughtsmen and writers as well as skilled craftsmen, I grew up in an environment of creativity and tools.” – ” So, ever since the age of I-don’t-know-how-old-I-was-back-then, I have a strong affection not only towards creating artwork, but also a deep interest in the technologies that are used in the process.” Well, we can see that!
Above is “My Die-Cast Soul”, part one in a series of filigree skull-ptures that combine the aesthetics of naturally shaped bone with state-of-the-art and experimental production techniques. In this case, the material is cast into the mold via explosion, causing a thin and irregular shaped layer of metal, which is galvanized and plated with 24kt gold in a later process. The life-size object is then placed on a custom-made marble platform and outfitted with sturdy but slim tubes that hold it in place.
Learning-By-Doing, this awfully overused term, applies to me just as well as Doing-By-Learning.
