The breathtaking 19th-century building was originally a bank and later became the famous Sweelinck Music Conservatorium, giving the hotel its name. Star designer and architect Piero Lissoni is responsible for the hotel’s current look, which juxtaposes clean modernist lines with the grandeur building’s architecture. The location is ideal for the cultured and stylish urban traveller: a stone’s throw away from Amsterdam’s three biggest museums and neighbor to the city’s chicest shopping district.
At the hotel’s heart is a gorgeous atrium that accommodates a palatial lounge area, brasserie and bar – which are well worth a visit whether you’re staying at the hotel or not. The rooms’ interiors have minimalist aesthetics softened by unvarnished wooden floors, woollen rugs and traditional Dutch ornaments.
