German product designer Christian Metzner creates simple, minimalistic objects that are both function and form in an elegant package. The “Ikarus” is a lamp made up of wax and an internal stainless steel structure suspended from a steel cable. As the lamp’s light-bulb heats, the wax melts and and re-forms, causing the lampshade to continually transform over time. Metzner’s bracelet series “BJM”, a fragile accessory composed of porcelain and glass, is a creative reinterpretation of antique Roman battle armor. In 2013, Metzner began designing accessories for Philipp Bree’s handbag collection, PB 0110. Aligned with the brand’s aesthetic of European craftsmanship and clean minimalist lines, Metzner’s supple leather goods are exquisitely simple and refined.
